Currituck Economic Development Announces Commerce Park and Aviation Training

Any kind of changes in the economy have a tendency to affect local development and Currituck County is no exception to this. Lately there has been talk of an expected surge in aviation industry employment along with the hoped for recovery of the economic climate in general. It should therefore be no real surprise that the Currituck Economic Development has announced the availability of shovel-ready commerce park building sites at competitive rates at the recently created Maple Commerce Park. Offering low local business taxes and free customized workforce training is a combination that will make this location a prime spot for any business considering the Hampton Roads region, particularly an aviation-related industry. Of course, this is only good news for the local business community, but is also a boon to the aviation industry as it gears up for a return to better economic factors and growing aviation manufacturing needs.
For the aviation industry the reason to consider Maple Commerce Park is two-fold. The first is that with the Currituck Regional Airport nearby to provide air service it makes the Maple Commerce Park a great site for anyone needing excellent transportation access. The second reason is the anticipation of the nearby College of Albemarle’s soon to be completed Aviation and Technical Training Facility. This facility will be able to provide students with the skills for aircraft maintenance technology including both sheet metal and composite instruction.
The College of Albemarle’s new Aviation and Technical Training Facility will be part of the college’s continuing workforce development program. That program has provided the region with top notch continuing education for everything from business owner training in customer service to retraining courses for learning new occupations. The Aviation and Technical Training Facility will continue with this tradition by providing hands-on training in the latest developments for a career in Aviation Technology, particularly as it pertains to aircraft maintenance.
With the growth of the aviation industry this is a highly skilled job that is very much in demand. The classes offered will allow students to enter the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified courses with a broader understanding and better chance of completing the FAA certified courses in Airframes and Powerplants. The timing of the skills courses at the college with the development of a shovel-ready commerce park nearby couldn’t be more advantages for both parties.
Currituck Economic Development confirmed that the 600+ acre Maple Commerce Park has completed all road and infrastructure development and that currently there are eleven shovel-ready commerce park sites that are available for immediate construction. With the sizes of the available sites ranging from 3.8 to 24.5 acres, just about any type or size of project could be accommodated today. The transportation handy location of the commerce park is zoned for Heavy Manufacturing which could include not only projects from the aviation industry but also advanced manufacturing, distribution facilities and value-added businesses.
In addition, the commerce park facility is in a forested park-like setting making this an ideal location for any business wanting a welcoming ambiance for its staff and visitors. When combined with the local incentives being offered to businesses considering locating to the new facility and the opportunities for newly trained skilled workers from nearby College of Albemarle’s Training Facilities, this is a golden opportunity for any business looking to find a solid commerce park location for expansion.
